صنایع شیمیایی دارندۀ یکی از بزرگ‏ترین زنجیره‌های ارزش تولید در میان صنایع مختلف است و محصولات این صنایع به عنوان کالای واسطه‌‏ای در دیگر صنایع کاربرد وسیعی دارد. در این پژوهش تابع هزینه، کشش‌های جانشینی و خودی آلن، کشش‌های قیمتی، کشش‌های موریشیما، کشش انواع انرژی، و کشش بازدهی نسبت به مقیاس در هفت فعالیت منتخب صنایع شیمیایی با استفاده از آمار و اطلاعات سال‏ های 4/1396-1/1381 برآورد شده است. نتایج نشان می‌دهد متوسط سهم اشتغال، دستمزد، ستانده و انرژی در صنایع شیمیایی از اشتغال، دستمزد، ستانده و انرژی کل بخش صنعت در دوره مورد بررسی به‏ ترتیب برابر 38/6، 41/8، 28/13، و 45/17 درصد است. در تولید صنایع کود شیمیایی و ترکیبات نیتروژن، تولید پلاستیک و لاستیک مصنوعی، تولید الیاف مصنوعی، و تولید سایر فرآورده‌های شیمیایی تغییرات قیمت نهاده انرژی بیش‏تر از قیمت سایر نهاده‌ها هزینه‌های تولید را تحت تاثیر قرار خواهد داد. همچنین، حساسیت تقاضای موجودی سرمایه به تغییرات قیمت سرمایه بیش از سایر نهاده‌هاست و مقادیر کشش‌های جانشینی متقاطع تقاضا کوچک هستند. در فعالیت‌های تولید مواد شیمیایی اساسی، تولید صنایع کود شیمیایی و ترکیبات نیتروژن، تولید انواع رنگ و روغن جلا و پوشش‌های مشابه، و تولید الیاف مصنوعی کشش قیمتی گاز طبیعی بیش از سایر انواع انرژی است. در فعالیت‌های تولید سایر فرآورده‌های شیمیایی، تولید صابون، شوینده‌ها، ترکیبات تمیز‌کننده و براق‌کننده، عطرها و مواد آرایشی، و تولید پلاستیک و لاستیک مصنوعی کشش قیمتی برق بیش‏تر از سایر نهاده‌هاست. فعالیت‌های منتخب در این مطالعه دارای بازدهی فزاینده نسبت به مقیاس هستند و واحدهای بزرگ‏تر آن‌ها بر واحدهای کوچک‏تر ارجح است.
