تحلیل و توضیح چرخه‎های اقتصادی، بهویژه رکود تورمی در کشورهایی که صادرکننده مواد اولیه هستند و نظیر اقتصاد ایران در بخش تولید وابستگی قابل‎توجهی به کالاهای واسطه ای وارداتی دارند، نیاز به تصریح متفاوت و دقیق تری از ساختار عرضه اقتصاد و شناسایی حلقه های ارتباطی داخلی و خارجی در مقایسه با الگوهای استاندارد کلان دارد. در این دسته از کشورها تغییرات نرخ ارز عمدتاً ناشی از تغییرات برون‎زای قیمت های نسبی کالاهای وارداتی به صادراتی (قیمت های جهانی) است. به غیر از این مورد، سایر تکانه‎های خارجی مانند تحریم‎های بین‎المللی نیز با ایجاد محدودیت‎های تجاری و افزایش هزینه مبادلات با اثرگذاری بر قیمت های کالاهای وارداتی و صادراتی و تغییر رابطه مبادله می توانند به تغییرات نرخ ارز شدت بخشند. بروز تکانه‎های منفی خارجی و در پی آن تغییرات نرخ ارز از طریق تغییر در بازدهی انتظاری، ترکیب سرمایه‎گذاری در دارایی های داخلی و خارجی و از مجرای تغییر قیمت کالاهای نهایی وارداتی، سبد مصرف خانوار و اجزای تقاضای کل اقتصاد را تغییر می‎دهند. به علاوه، زمانی که زنجیره عرضه اقتصاد به جریان واردات وابسته باشد، تکانه‎های منفی خارجی از مجرای افزایش قیمت کالاهای واسطه ای وارداتی و ایجاد اخلال در زنجیره عرضه بر بخش عرضه اقتصاد اثرگذار است. پژوهش حاضر با رویکرد الگوهای اقتصاد باز نوکینزی در چارچوب یک مدل تعادل عمومی پویای تصادفی با گسترش بخش عرضه اقتصاد از طریق تفکیک کالاهای واسطه وارداتی و داخلی به عنوان اجزای تشکیل‎دهندۀ زنجیره عرضه و اضافه کردن سازوکاری برای اثرگذاری تحریم های بین المللی، مجرای متفاوتی را نسبت به سایر مجاری تعیین کننده در اثرگذاری تغییرات نرخ ارز برای اقتصاد ایران لحاظ می کند تا از این طریق تشدید رکود تورمی به واسطه تکانه های خارجی در ایران را از زاویه ای دیگر توضیح دهد.
