The main goal of this paper is to study the economic study the economic structure of transportation sector in Irans economy within the last three decades. Comparative, static input-output analysis method has been used with the help of four tables related to 1973, 1986, 1991 and 2000. For this purpose, traditional backward and forward linkages indicator of structural analysis has been used in the input-output model. Moreover, the paper has made use of input-output production elasticity indicator for determining the importance of this sector. The results show that before and after the Islamic Revolution Iran, the transportation sector has had the highest linkages with the industry sector, which is the most important economic sector in Iran. Discovering the sustainable interrelation between transportation and industry sectors is regarded the most important achievement of this study. The results of this study inform the economic policymakers on the quantitative the amount of transportation sectors dependence on other sectors. This paper also signifies to policymakers that the transportation sector can not grow alone and its development is tightly related to the development of industry sector
